Science says: Bald is optional.
You see it in the mirror every morning. The hairline creeping back, the thinning at the crown. They are the signs of hair loss and thinning hair. It's subtle at first, but you know it's happening.
You're not alone. 80% of men will experience hair loss at some point in their life.
While it can feel frustrating or even confronting, it doesn't have to be. Here’s the thing, science says “bald is optional”. There are plenty of hair loss and hair regrowth options, but which ones are science-backed? Most importantly, which ones are right for you?
We're here to sort fact from fiction, to empower you to take control of your hairline and confidence. We believe in treating the root, not just the symptom. Our bioactive nutritional solutions are science-backed, practitioner-formulated, and designed to integrate seamlessly into a modern lifestyle.
Apotecari focuses on bioavailable nutrition that supports healthier, stronger hair. Our products are not pharmaceutical treatments and any concerns about medical conditions need assessment by a qualified health practitioner.

Symptoms.
Hair loss doesn’t happen all at once, it progresses in stages. The Norwood-Hamilton Scale, the clinical standard for male pattern baldness, helps track this.
- Stage 1–2: Minimal recession, but you might notice a slight thinning at the temples.
- Stage 3: Deeper hairline recession, particularly at the temples. This is often when most men take action.
- Stage 4–5: Thinning spreads to the crown. A noticeable bald patch may form.
- Stage 6–7: The bridge of hair between crown and temples begins to disappear. Baldness extends across the scalp.

Other symptoms may include:
- Excess hair fall in the shower or on your pillow
- Scalp becoming more visible under light
- Loss of volume and thickness
- Decreased hair density, referring to a noticeable reduction in the number of strands per square centimetre of scalp.
- Changes in hair texture or growth rate
- Hairline appearing “M”-shaped or uneven

Causes
-
GENETICS & DHT SENSITIVITY.
The most common form of male hair loss is androgenetic alopecia, a genetic condition that causes hair follicles to shrink in response to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Over time, hair becomes finer, then stops growing. Approximately 80% of men will experience some level of this in their lifetime.
Genetic sensitivity to DHT determines the rate and pattern of loss. Early intervention is key, as dormant follicles can be harder to reactivate.
Additionally, some forms of non-scarring hair loss, such as alopecia areata, may also have a genetic predisposition, with immune and environmental factors contributing to its unpredictable onset.
-
NUTRITIONAL STATUS.
Hair is non-essential tissue, meaning the body prioritises nutrients elsewhere when supplies run low. Low levels of zinc, biotin, vitamin D, and iron have been linked to accelerated shedding and slowed regrowth. Nutrition is intimately involved in the regulation of the hair growth cycle.
Nutrition also impacts keratin production, scalp circulation, and inflammation, all of which are critical to hair health.
-
STRESS.
Stress can trigger a condition called telogen effluvium, where hair prematurely enters the shedding phase. Chronic stress raises cortisol, disrupting the hair cycle and leading to diffuse thinning. Modern lifestyles, lack of sleep, and digital fatigue compound the problem.
-
HORMONAL IMBALANCE.
Beyond DHT, other hormonal shifts can influence hair loss. Thyroid dysfunction, testosterone decline, or even shifts in insulin sensitivity can affect hair density and scalp oil production, creating an unhealthy environment for growth.
-
SCALP HEALTH & INFLAMMATION.
An inflamed, irritated, or poorly oxygenated scalp creates a hostile environment for follicles. A dry, irritated, or clogged scalp can disrupt hair growth and contribute to excessive shedding. Conditions like seborrheic dermatitis, buildup, or microinflammation can constrict the follicle’s ability to produce strong, healthy strands.

The role of nutrition.
Hair follicles require a consistent supply of nutrients to function optimally. Some of these include:
- Cysteine and Methionine are the building blocks of keratin, including the super strong disulfide bonds which are responsible for the structural integrity of the hair.
- Activated B vitamins such as B2, B6, B9 and B12 are important for metabolic regulation, cellular metabolism. They are closely involved in the regulation of the hair growth cycle.
- Zinc plays a critical role in the production and regulation of a wide range of hormones, including adrenal, thyroid and reproductive hormones like testosterone. It maintains the structural integrity of protein (like keratin) and collagen and elastin production.
- Vitamin D for follicle cycling.
- Iodine and selenium for thyroid support and anti-oxidant activity.
- Iron supports red blood cell health, critical for the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the hair follicle.
- Biotin and Silica for keratin infrastructure.
Unlike medications that tend to target one mechanism, nutraceuticals support multiple biological systems at once, offering a holistic path to restoring hair health from within.

LukeI have been using Mane Event and Hair Atelier for several months now and the results have been immediate. The products have restored health and vitality to my hair. It doesn't hurt that the shakes are delicious and that the prices are so reasonable. Highly recommend Apotecari!
JamesI started noticing my hair was becoming more sparce around my hairline and top of head. Male pattern baldness runs in my family so I knew I was heading in that direction. I've been taking Mane Event for 6 months and can safely say the thickness of my hair and amount of hair has increased. I'm no longer self conscious about my hair.
MatI started my hair wellness journey with Apotecari one month ago to target my hair needs. Apotecari's Crowning Glory has balanced and restored my hair after going platinum blonde, with natural oils, vitamins and minerals.
